Student life in Chester
Chester is a beautiful English city on the River Dee (right by the border with Wales), offering plenty of history and culture to enjoy, close to your student accommodation.
Founded as a Roman fort, you can find plenty going on within the walls of the city including award-winning nightlife and festivals. Chester offers a variety of options in the way of entertainment, from designer shops and cool student-friendly bars to lots of affordable eating venues.
To start exploring, take a short walk from our Chester accommodation to Brook Street, full of tasty food options, vintage and vinyl shopping, and picturesque street murals. For live music go to The Live Rooms, Chester’s largest independent venue where bands of every genre perform all year round. Another option is Alexander’s, close to Exton Park campus of the University of Chester, a venue with live acoustic performances and weekly student deals.
For a night out on the town, you shouldn’t miss going to Rosie’s, a classic choice for Chester students. They have dress-up nights, student deals and three floors of music for your enjoyment. Another must-visit is The Storyhouse, a venue comprising a theatre, cinema and library for all of your entertainment needs.
For a bit of history you’ll be able to visit the Chester Cathedral, a stunning piece of gothic architecture. If you’re going to the University of Chester, it’s actually where you’ll graduate so you can get an early sneak peek!
Only a bus ride away from your Chester accommodation is one of the city’s biggest attractions, Chester Zoo. It’s the UK’s leading zoo (and the world’s third best!), home to over 500 species of endangered animals with a team dedicated to preserving global biodiversity.
Another bus ride away is the ultimate shopping destination, Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet. It’s a full day out with over 140 designer shops full of bargains as well as restaurants to fuel up for some retail therapy. And if you fancy a change of scenery to show off your new clothes? Liverpool and Manchester are only a train ride away!

Congratulations! You’ve got a place on a course through clearing and you’re going to university; but what happens next?
Well, the first thing you need to do is accept the offer of study sent to you by the university. You’ll need to do this via UCAS. Once this is done and it’s all confirmed, you’ll also need to let your student finance provider know if there are any changes to your original application, such as a change in the university you’re attending, the course you’re studying, and the length of the course.
It’s also important that you find and confirm your accommodation. Options for last minute accommodation can be limited, so let us help you take away the stress. At Student Roost, we have accommodation in 21 UK cities. Upgrade your student living and become a part of our student community.
Yes, we do. With our short-term student accommodation in Chester, you can stay for one semester or two, depending on your study plans. Learn more about our short-term student accommodation.
