Get ready to dine and dance in our Belfast disco kitchen

Have you ever been cooking for you and your student flatmates and thought, “You know what this is missing? A bit of karaoke…”

Well, if you’re looking to study in Belfast, you’re in luck. At our Great Patrick Street property, you’ll find a kitchen with a quirk: it’s not just a kitchen, it’s a DISCO kitchen!

Wondering what exactly that entails? In 2023, the existing hosting kitchen at this Belfast student accommodation was given a musical makeover by the team to create a space where residents can enjoy making memorable moments with mates.

The existing space was given a glow-up comprising hot pink paint, zebra print décor, funky art prints, neon lighting and – of course – an elevated stage in the corner with large TV, speakers and a microphone. Get ready to sing for your supper!

The kitchen remains fully operational, with an oven, hob, countertop surfaces and more for you to cook up a feast. The party atmosphere is all new, though, allowing residents (including those in our neighbouring Little Patrick Street property) to book out the space for evenings spent snacking, singing and celebrating.

It’s a versatile space, too. We’ve hosted communal events in there like pancake-making and pizza parties, while the TV area doubles up as a co-op gaming station; these four walls have even been host to a proposal!

Dinneka Stevenson, Operations Manager at Great Patrick Street and the visionary behind the disco kitchen transformation, said: “The theatre kitchen (what it was previously known as) was a large, empty space with plain walls. It was used for the occasional event but didn’t get used often by students. The space is now booked out at least five nights out of the week by residents, for dinner parties, birthday parties and even the odd proposal.”

We think the disco kitchen is a perfect example of how Student Roost spaces combine functionality and fun to best serve our student community. Time to get that playlist sorted for Taco Tuesdays, yeah?
